Rural small-scale agriculturists in Zululand face many challenges when accessing means to plough their fields. Miss-management of municipal tractors often means that gardens miss critical windows for ploughing. Drought and poor grazing results in cattle or donkeys being too weak to pull ploughs as an alternate option. In response Siyazisiza Trust is piloting the use of 2-wheel tractors on small-scale agricultural plots. These tractors have been used extensively for many years in the Far East and they are ideally suited for conditions in developing regions.
